The KidLit Fest, Nigeria’s annual in-person celebration of children’s books and storytelling, takes place every December in Lagos. Dedicated to children and families, the festival is a vibrant platform that showcases local and international authors, illustrators, and young creatives while promoting a culture of reading and creativity among children aged 3 to 16.
The 2025 theme, “Once Upon a Time at The KidLit Fest,” invites you to step into a world of imagination through books, art, and performance. From lively storytelling sessions and author readings to spelling bees, youth talks, and interactive workshops, every activity is designed to bring stories to life.

Our Festival
“We created The KidLit Fest so that Nigerian children could see themselves in the heart of stories, art, and ideas. We want them to not only read books but also meet the writers, illustrators, and performers who make them, and to know that their own voices and imaginations are powerful enough to take the stage too.” – Sope Martins, Founder
The 2025 festival programme includes:

The Book Café, where children and teens can enjoy author readings, buy books, and relax with a good story

The Craft Corner, featuring workshops in animation, poetry, character design, and illustration
Families can also explore vendor stalls, food stands, and interactive spaces designed for fun and learning. Parents and educators will find sessions and panels on literacy, creative education, and the future of children’s publishing in Nigeria.
With its mix of books, art, performance, and community, The KidLit Fest has become one of Lagos’ most exciting family festivals, inspiring children to read, create, and celebrate stories that reflect their world.
